91 years – What a long and interesting life she led.

Leona was born in Ponoka to John and Agnes Walenta on January 12, 1918. She attended school at Fertile Forest and married Ray Hemeyer in 1941. Leona and Ray bought the Ernest Hemeyer homestead and farmed until 1975 when they moved to Ponoka. In 1982 they moved to Creston and back to Ponoka in 1995. Leona moved to Reid Manor in 2008 where she resided until her passing on January 29, 2009. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Dennis (Maggie), Bob (Anita), Don (Gail) and Doug (Carol); grandchildren Michael, Brent, Kevin, Wayne, Art, Jackie, Brenda and Lorelei; great-grandchildren Aaron, Jordan, Dylan, Byron, Jesse, Jaden, Michaela, Braedon, Brienna, Jason, Hayden and Desirée; numerous other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Ray in 2001, sister Iva in 1992 and her parents in 1970. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponoka Funeral Home with Reverend Lyn Lamers officiating. The Interment Service followed at Forest Home Cemetery. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society.
