Lilli Makus
On September 2, 2016 Mrs. Lilli Makus passed away at the Northcott Care Centre at the age of 81 years. Lil was born October 19, 1934 in Bergdorf, a German village in Romania. She was the oldest of seven children of Otto and Marie Raugust. In 1940 the German settlers had to leave Romania, ending up in Poland, where they lived for a couple of years before having to flee again, arriving in Elmshorn, Germany as refugees. In April of 1951, the Raugust Family immigrated to Canada, landing in Halifax and then by train to Ponoka. She went to work as a cook at Bud’s Fine Foods Restaurant. During those years she met the “Love of her Life” Alfred and they were married on August 28, 1957. After her many years working in the restaurant, she went to work as a cook at the Ponoka General Hospital until 1995. Lilli will be loving remembered by her daughter Debbie, son-in-law Kevin of Leduc, granddaughter Tina and great grandchildren Summer, Madison and Joseph; daughter Susan, son-in-law, Tom of Ponoka, grandson Michael (Samantha) and great granddaughter, Charley Ann and granddaughter, Carmen (Dan) and great-granddaughter Dawn; her siblings Alfred (Hilda) of Ponoka, Walter (Marion) of Ponoka, Gerdie (Fred) of Briscoe, B.C., Hildegard (Heinz) of Edmonton, Anne (Larry) of Edmonton; sisters-in-law, Ida (Phil), Bertha; brother-in-law, Otto; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred, parents, Otto and Marie Raugust, sister, Ella Megyesi and parents-in law Ferdinand & Katherine Makus, sisters-in-law, Ivy Stebner and Helen Henkelman, brothers-in-law, Ray, Irvin and Arnold Makus. A Funeral Service was held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ponoka at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7th with the Interment Service following at the Church Cemetery.
