Lois Galbraith


Lois Marilyn Galbraith passed away on October 17, 2016 at the Ponoka Hospital & Care Centre a month shy of her 86th birthday. Lois was born in Edmonton to parents Jim & Perle Smith. The large family of ten children resided in Edmonton, Homeglen, Springdale, Rimbey and Ponoka while she was growing up. Lois married Gordon Galbraith on September 4, 1954, and they lived in Ponoka until such time as they built the house of their dreams on their lake front property at Gull Lake in 1981. Lois & Gordon welcomed daughter Marjorie in 1958 and son John in 1972. Lois worked for the Town of Ponoka for thirty years. She also worked at the Ponoka General Hospital, County of Ponoka, Town of Lacombe and after retirement she worked in Bentley at the Deer Creek Gas Co-op. Lois was always ready to volunteer and was involved in the I.O.D.E. and Eastern Star while they lived in Ponoka. Lois and Gordon moved into Rimoka Lodge in Ponoka in September 2015 retaining their home in Gull Lake. Trips to the lake on Sundays with her family for dinner were a great comfort to her. Lois leaves behind her husband of 62 years, Gordon Galbraith; daughter Marjorie (Ken) Krossa and their daughters Lexi Krossa (Trenton), Kendall (Rory) Marcoux (daughters Jordyn, Ryan, Kahrington & Chayce), Cadance Krossa, Skylar Krossa, Halli Krossa (Craig); her son John (Helen) Galbraith and their children Hilary and Hayden; sisters Ina (Bill) DeWilde and Phyllis (Roy) Bischke; brothers Bill (Gail) Smith and Bob Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Lois was predeceased by her parents Jim & Perle Smith, sisters Doreen Meredith, Margaret Rasmussen, Wilma Baldwin & Rita Dietrich and brother Jim Smith; Gordon’s parents John & Nell Galbraith and his sisters Jessie Rigney and Margaret Zuhling. A Memorial Tea will be held in honour of Lois on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Ponoka Branch #66. Memorial donations in Lois’ name are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta or any charity of your choice.
