Marie Frandsen

FRANDSEN, Charlotte “Marie” - It is with heart filled sadness we announce the passing of Marie Frandsen on February 21, 2010. Marie was born May 27, 1939 to Sanford and “Lottie” Leader of Lacombe AB. She grew up on the family farm near Clive, and like her 3 sisters before her, chose to follow a career in nursing. She attended a 4 year combined Psych Nursing & RN program through Alberta Hospital Ponoka & University of Alberta and graduated in 1961. During training, she met fellow student Eric Frandsen, and in 1962 they married. They both continued to nurse at Alberta Hospital Ponoka until their move to the Frandsen family farm in the early 1970’s, when she temporarily retired from nursing to help on the farm & devote her attentions to family, gardening, & her many animals. Marie was able to return to her beloved nursing profession intermittently at both AHP & Ponoka General Hospital. She worked almost 20 years as evening charge nurse at the General Hospital until her retirement in 1997 due to illness. After retirement, she kept busy with grandchildren, gardening & pets, & later developed an interest in genealogy, for which she received two degrees from Athabasca College. Marie is survived by her children Dallas (Ross) Foulston, Darin Frandsen and Brent (Christine) Frandsen; grandchildren Caelin, Eric, Ashlyn, Karianne and Kyle; sisters Anna Laing of Cochrane, Ellen Neumiester of Vancouver, BC and Etta (Dean) Chessor of Lacombe; sister-in-law Sylvia (Willard) Demoline of Falun; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her loving husband Eric. Marie will be dearly missed for her sharp wit, her strong shoulder & her ice cream socials. A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26th with the Interment Service following at the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre or the Haiti Relief Fund.
