Marjorie Smith

June 18, 1926 – December 5, 2009

Marjorie (Marj) was born to Lavinia and Walter Fisk at Vermillion, Alberta, the 5th of seven children. She spent her early life there and came to Ponoka as a student nurse at AHP. It was there she met her future husband, Jim Smith. They married, and in 1947 their son Terry was born, followed by Brenda, Greg, Brian and Kelly. They raised their family in Ponoka, and with the youngest in school, Marj completed her nurse’s training and worked at AHP for many years. She was an avid hockey and curling spectator; she enjoyed gardening, baking, and knitting. Her happiest hours were spent surrounded by family and the many summers she and Jim relaxed at their permanent campsite at Gull Lake. They also toured overseas to the UK and then Italy. She was predeceased by her parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers, an infant daughter, and her husband, Jim. Marj leaves to mourn an array of friends, her beloved children and their families, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Private Family Memorial Service will take place at Ponoka Funeral Home. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Ponoka Home Care (for the purchase of new equipment) or to The Lending Cupboard in Red Deer (for the purchase of new equipment).
