Martha Sophie Makus
Martha Makus of Ponoka passed away on April 2, 2013 at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 83 years. Martha was born on February 27, 1930 in Hay Lakes, Alberta to parents Rudolph & Julian Schoenknecht. She married Arnold Makus on November 9, 1951. Together they moved to a farm NW of Ponoka and continued mixed farming for over 30 years where they raised their four children. Martha is survived by three sons and one daughter: Barry of Ponoka; Alvin and his wife Silvana, their son Christopher and daughter Jennifer all of Brazil; Jerry and his wife Debbie, their daughter Jaylene and son Billy of Ponoka; and Barbara, and her husband Andy Hawirko and their daughter Julie of B.C.. Martha is also survived by two brothers and one sister: Art Schoenknecht of B.C., Edwin Schoenknecht (Elsie) of Camrose and Emily Fyles of B.C.. A Funeral Service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ponoka at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6 with the Interment Service following at Forest Home Cemetery.
