Ida is survived by her children, Ray (Theresa) Turner of Ponoka, Doreen (John) Turk of Airdrie, Lorraine (Rudi) Blattler of Edmonton, Neil (Patricia) Turner of Ponoka, and Connie (Tom) Sykes of Edmonton; her grandchildren Kara (Warren) Hodnefield, Craig Turner, Angela Turk, Duane Turk, Corinne Blattler, David (Tracy) Blattler, Ellen (Camilo) Avila-Sykes, Gina Sykes, and Adam Sykes; her great-grandchildren Jenna, Anton, and Jaelyn Hodnefield, Roman and Asher Blattler, and Nevaya Turk; one brother, Andy Nadon of Calgary; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Turner of Ponoka; her parents Marie Louise and Stanislas Nadon of Calgary; six brothers David, Larry, Archie, Oscar, Bob, and Ben; and three sisters Florence, Florida, and Gertrude. Mary Edith (known to her family and friends as Ida) was born on February 3, 1922 in Edam, Saskatchewan; the third of four daughters and the seventh of eleven children. She moved with her family to Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan at the age of eight and helped on the family homestead until she was married at the age of 20 on October 26, 1942 to Frank Turner. Ida and Frank left Meadow Lake in 1944 going first to Nanton, then to Edmonton in 1945, and finally to Ponoka in 1956. Ida was a talented seamstress and cook, and was always busy taking care of her family, gardening, babysitting, knitting or sewing. She was a hard-working, beloved mother and wife who also found time for her beautiful garden displays; sweet peas being one of her favorite flowers. All her children remember the vegetable garden too; all that weeding and picking of peas, beans, and carrots! She loved to play cards and canasta was the highlight of many family gatherings, not to mention all the games of crib had with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered most fondly for her no-nonsense advice, wry sense of humour and earthy sayings as well as the ever-abundant baking of chocolate chip cookies, apple pie, brownies and home baked buns were some of the favourites always on hand for visitors. Her life was guided by her faith in God and her devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of the Lacombe Care Centre, and especially Dr. DuToit of Ponoka and Dr. Olivier of Lacombe, for their dedicated care of Ida. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society in Ida's memory. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. Augustine's Church, Ponoka.
