On February 11, 2021 May Spence of Ponoka passed away. May was born on June 3, 1923 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In 1944 she married Bob Spence and they enjoyed 58 years together. She was an active member of Ponoka's community in Kinettes, K-forties, Eastern Star, the curling club, Legion, Seniors Centre, and Ponoka Golf Club.
As well, she led CGIT, coached high school basketball and softball, and co-organized the stampede parade. Many of her paintings were donated throughout Ponoka signed "Tutu".
She worked alongside Bob at their Central Hardware, Gorman's Drugstore and the Auction Market. Following Bob's passing, May partnered with Don Dillion.
She was predeceased by Bob; son Ron; and three brothers - Alex, Bert, and Luke Pringle.
May will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Donna James (Wes) and Darlene Spence (Mike); six grandchildren - Nicole Kestila, Danielle Faria (Vic), Raelene Torok (Norbert), Rob, Dianna, and Shelby Spence; thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Verna Pringle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr, Halse, the staff of Ponoka Hospital LTC, Rimoka Lodge, and FCSS for the wonderful care and support given our mum and family. There will be no formal Funeral Service in Ponoka. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ponoka FCSS, Ponoka & District Health Foundation (Long Term Care), or the Rimoka Housing Foundation.
