WE HAVE AN ANGEL

An angel who, while on earth, built us up to believe that we could do anything. That inspired us to work hard, to follow our passions, and no matter what, praised our efforts, regardless of how badly we felt we were failing. This angel was beautiful inside and out, with Firey red hair and all the independence and confidence that comes with it.

She was a leader. She was the matriarch. She was a lot of what we aspired to be and continue to strive to attain. This woman was strong beyond doubt, a green thumb, a supportive wife, a loving mother, an amazing grandma, and great grandma.

She was a set of ears, a phone call to shorten a long drive, someone we could count on, and did, in a pinch. She and our dad/grampa/great grampa were there through every crisis, through every heartbreak, and always with the best of advice reminding us just how strong and independent we are. This woman was firm and authoritative but kind and loved by all who knew her.

Writing this in the past tense doesn't seem quite right. She deserved a longer and healthy life. She deserved more sunny days spent in her garden, spent playing with great grandchildren, enjoying a bowl of vanilla ice cream and fresh raspberries, more lobster suppers, more years of travel as she so enjoyed their adventures with friends in Australia, and Hawaii was a favorite. The Alaska cruise was one she talked about for a long time.

The world can dig its ugly claws where it's least welcomed; it will and it did. In those moments Marylou rallied, she showed us all what a fierce will to live looked like. She defied a 6-12 month expiry and enjoyed another 2 years without a complaint and with all the fight that she had. After 80 beautiful and full years on this earth she is spending her days with her wings, smiling down and we know, very thankful.
