Mike Weir passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at the age of 58 years. Mike was born in Ponoka, Alberta on December 17, 1960. He attended elementary and high school in Ponoka and during that time was an avid hockey player and baseball player. After school Mike built houses for about two years and then started his career in the oil patch that lasted many years including working for Westburne on a steam rig near Hiroshima, Japan. After returning from Japan, Mike met is wife Karen (nee Law) and they were married in November of 1992. They were blessed with three beautiful children Hayley, Lindsey, and Carter. Mike obtained his 4th class power engineering ticket and started work in maintenance at the Ponoka General Hospital in September of 2001. Mike's greatest pride and joy were his children and his acreage which he spent hours working on to make it the beautiful acreage it is today.
Leaving to mourn Mike are his wife Karen; children Hayley, Lindsey, and Carter; his mother Doreen; brothers Tom (Colleen), Gord (Linda), and Jim (Lynn); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, co-workers, and his beloved dog Harley. Mike was predeceased by his father Robert Weir in June of 2019.
A Funeral Service for Mike will be held at the Stagecoach Saloon (Ponoka Stampede Grounds) at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2019. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to S.T.A.R.S.. To express condolences to
