Mildred Nelson

Mildred Grace (nee Auten) Nelson passed away in Ponoka February 19, 2012 in her 97th year. Mildred was one of the last of the pioneer generation of the Auten family of Ponoka and she married into the Paulson/Nelson family of Usona. Her life was dedicated to her family in which she included the neighbours and freinds of a lifetime, in the Sharpehead, Gwynne and Anthony Hill Districts. Mildred was predeceased by her husband Edward Nelson; by her parents Lee J. and Mary (McVicker) Auten; by her siblings Melvin, Fred, Earl and Laura (Rees Jones); her nephews Howard Auten and Gerry Racher; and by one grandchild Lei-Lani Nelson. Left to mourn her passing are her six children Ken (Reme Agustin) of Edmonton, Pat (Jim Cook) of Pigeon Lake, Doreen (Fred Broska) of the Ponoka District, Nancy (John Vose) of France, Linda (Charlie Johnson) of Lac La Biche and Susan (Walter Vetterli) of Williams Lake, BC. In addition there are a myriad of relatives and friends who live in the Ponoka and Wetaskiwin Districts, throughout the Province of Alberta and across Canada and the USA who share in this farewell to an Alberta Pioneer. Mildred loved her farm and was a committed supporter of the co-operative movement and the socialist ideals that formed the basis of family farming in Alberta. She loved her community and her garden; she led a full and satisfying life. A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 25 at the Ponoka United Church.
