Neil Daniel Chalack was born at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary on January 4, 1941 and passed away in Edmonton at the Grey Nun’s Hospital on May 4, 2015 following complications from surgery. He had resided in many communities throughout Alberta during his career with the Bank of Montreal finally settling in Ponoka for the last 36 years.


Neil is survived by his wife Maureen and three sons and their families, Kelly in Red Bank, New Jersey, Jeff and Tina, with children Ryley and Cianna in Lethbridge and Cory and Brandi and Cayden in Jupitor, Florida. He is also survived by three step children and their families, Linda and Darwin Eitzen at Linden, Rodney and Melanie Malaka, children Riley, Russell and Rayna, at Acme, Carolyn and Robin Vanderkuil, children Kylie, Kyra and Willem. Neil has four surviving siblings, Laverne, John, Joan and Norma and sister-in-laws Lorraine and Dale, Bernice, and Betty and Gordon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.


Neil was active in the many communities he lived in, whether building a curling rink in Acme, Alberta , coaching ball, driving a Lion’s bus or mucking out the food booth after the Ponoka Stampede. Following his career with the bank he sold life insurance and group benefits insurance to people across Alberta.


In sadness Neil was predeceased by his first wife Phyllis on August 12, 2009 who had struggled with ALS. He was also predeceased by his parents Francis and Daniel Chalack and sister Lucielle. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the ALS Society of Alberta.
