July 24, 1934 – October 31, 2021
Mr. Norman Henry Lewis passed away at the Southwood Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta on October 31, 2021, at the age of 87 years. Norman is survived by his children Jim (Carol-Ann) of Edmonton, Colleen of Calgary, his loving granddaughter Suzanne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Norm was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Betty, brother Boyd, parents Mildred and Henry Lewis, and sisters-in-law Bernice Rudderham and Elaine Brown.
Norman was born in Ponoka, Alberta to Mildred and Henry Lewis on July 24, 1934. He completed his primary school in a one-room country school (Bobtail), and secondary school at Ponoka High; he graduated in 1950. He later earned a Certificate in Business from the University of Western Ontario. Norm worked as a Banker for CIBC for 40 years in several locations including Medicine Hat, Calgary, Ponoka, and Edmonton. Though he spent many of those years working in Regional Office, he took the opportunity to return home to Ponoka for 4 years where he was Branch Manager and enjoyed reuniting with many friends from his school days. After retirement in 1990, Norm and Betty purchased some land in Water Valley where Norm was very involved in clearing land in preparation for the building of their beautiful log home which they ran for several years as a Bed & Breakfast.
After 8 years in the log home, they were welcomed to High River, AB, which turned out to be a wonderful town in which to spend most of their remaining retirement years. Norm and Betty also enjoyed many years together on the open road with an RV, exploring much of Canada and the western U.S., as well as enjoying many winters in Arizona. Norm was an avid golfer and enjoyed participating in other sports including curling and softball. He had a quiet but steadfast faith and was actively involved in the United Church of Canada.
Memorial donations may be made to High River United Church, BOX 5520, High River, AB T1V 1M6. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Chris Powell, and to staff of the following Retirement Communities: Seasons in High River, St. Teresa Place and Southwood Care Centre in Calgary.
