Norman John Slater

1934 - 2009

Norm Slater was born on April 29, 1934 in Ponoka, Alberta and passed away on February 12, 2009 in Ponoka, Alberta at the age of 74 years. Norm was a devoted husband to Mary (Stang) for over 45 years. He was devoted to his family. He was adamant that he did not want to be a grandfather but when his kids were married it was “bring on the grand kids”. He loved and spoiled his grand-children buying them quads, horses and stuff from the Dollar Store and like nothing better than to tease his grand kids to no end. He enjoyed racing pony chuck wagons, visiting, and dancing. In his later years he loved using ‘good’ junk to build many decorative and useful articles for friends and family. Whenever Norm showed up on Bud and Vera’s door with shirts that had been well worn, Vera would help the holes along and encourage Norm to get a new one. Norm loved animals but wasn’t afraid to give the cats leather boot disease when they showed up at the house.Norm is lovingly remembered by his son Glenn and his wife Dorene (Trenerry) and grandchildren Megan and Richard; his daughter Lori (sis) and her husband Calvin Sierpinski and grandchildren Natasha and Kailey sisters-in-law Vera and Phyllis Slater; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. At Norm’s request, there will be no Funeral Service. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to S.T.A.R.S. or to a charity of your choice.
