Pat Jones


Marguerite Patricia Jones of Ponoka passed away on February 3, 2010 at the age of 93 years. Pat was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia on January 7, 1917 in the MacDonald home in the Village of Louisburg. She was the eldest of 5 daughters born to Peter and Sadie MacDonald. Peter, Sadie and 3 year old Pat moved to Alberta in 1920 to the Soldiers Settlement on the Bob Tail. When Pat was about 11 years old the family moved to Ponoka where Peter accepted a job with the Municipal District, now called the County of Ponoka. Pat worked for the County of Ponoka for over 20 years. Pat married Griff Jones on June 27, 1943. Griff passed away 4 months before their 40th wedding anniversary. Pat leaves to mourn three children: Lillian (Gordie) Dorchester, Marilyn Almond and Ian (Pat) Jones; six grandchildren: Robin (Mary-Anne) Dorchester, Jody (Jacquie) Dorchester, Kyle Dorchester, Brent Almond, Shan (Shane) Tebb and Allison (Chuck) Carr; six great-grandchildren: Samara Potts, Jacob and Cole Dorchester and Kendra, Griffin and Gavin Tebb; two great-great-grandchildren Keira and Kaylee Potts; her sister Bessie Melenka of Edmonton; sister-in-law Inez Jones of Wetaskiwin; and several nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by her husband Griff on February 3, 1983; an infant daughter Jane Ellen; sisters Eva Harris, Florence LeBaron and Wilma Zilm; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marie (Glyn) Owen, Pheobe (Francis) Scott and Edwin Jones; and special nephews and niece David Owen, Jim Scott, George Jones, Ken Owen and Hazel Milne. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Ponoka Funeral Home with Pastors Fred Knipp and George McKenzie officiating. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Zion Christian Fellowship Building Fund or the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society.
