Phyllis (Algar) Lovig


1919 – 2010




The family of Phyllis Lovig announces with deep sadness her passing on April 22, 2010. Phyllis was born on September 23, 1919 to parents William and Kathleen Watts at Polegate, East Sussex, England. Phyllis and her family immigrated to Canada in 1925. They settled in Ponoka, Alberta. This is where she met and married her husband Harry Algar and where they raised their six children: Joyce (Dave) Kurney, Shirley (Bud) Winger, Harry “Chip” (Ileen) Algar, Douglas Algar, David “Tim” Algar and Louise (Lawrence) Koehli. Left to cherish her memory are her children, 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren three nieces and two nephews. She was predeceased by her husbands Harry Algar (1965) and Clarence Lovig (1979); her daughter Joyce, brothers Wilfred, Ronald and Royston, sisters Ivy and Margery and four nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Beatrix Schirner officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Home Cemetery.


Peace is a hidden, babbling brook


The solitude at night,


Peace is a floating moonlit cloud,


A soaring bird in flight.


Peace is the rainbow after rain,


A mother’s look of love.
