May 15, 1930 - Dec 7, 2017
Roy Nansen Thor Vold (Sonny) was born on May 15, 1930. He was the youngest in the family of Roy and Ruth Vold and had three sisters, Opal, Martha and Olive.

During his younger days, Roy was an avid hunter and trapper who enjoyed the outdoors and nature. Also from a young age, Roy helped his father in the family business of showing and selling purebred Hereford cattle. Roy was an accomplished showman and cattle judge, travelling as far as the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto to compete.

In 1957, Roy married Enid Jones and the two of them were inseparable until Enid's death earlier this fall. They both loved the farm and together made it their life's work.

Roy was a long-time board member of several local organizations including the Ponoka Co-op Oils, the Ponoka Savings and Credit Union and as UFA delegate for Ponoka.

Roy's Christian faith was very important to him and he attended Asker Lutheran Church for his entire life, serving on the board and teaching Sunday School for many years and in later life became the sexton of the cemetery.

In his retirement years, Roy took to collecting and although he dabbled in many things, his collection of Canadian paper money and his Sharps rifle collection were second to none and won many exhibitor awards at the shows he loved to attend.

For the last 14 months of his life Roy was well cared for at the Northcott Care Centre and died there peacefully on December 7, 2017 at the age of 87 years.

Roy is survived by his two sons, Vincent (Patti) and Wesley (Lynn) Vold. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Tyler (Janelle), Kelly, Tovah (Martin), Kyle (Nicena), Maren, Valerie, David, Judite, Bethany, Matthew, Daniel and Rachel as well as great-grandchildren Danae, Aimee, Karlin, Hailey, Cyrus and Joseph Vold and Uriah and Ansen Bauer.

Suggestions for memorial donations are the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society or the Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute (CLBI).

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponoka Funeral Home with the Interment Service following at the Asker Cemetery and lunch at Asker Lutheran Church.
