DRISDELLE – Ruby Bernice (nee Raugust, formerly Rachar)

1936 - 2008

Ruby Drisdelle passed away August 12, 2008 at the Forest Grove Care Centre, Calgary at the age of 72 years after a lengthy illness. She will be dearly missed by her daughter Debra Cheek (Doug Clow) of Calgary; a son Kelly Rachar of Kamloops, BC; three grandchildren Alia Cheek, Ashley Rachar and Corey Rachar; and two great-grandchildren Pyper and Aja Cheek. She is also survived by five brothers and sisters Ted Raugust (Marj), Stanley Raugust, Doreen Keeler (Dennis), Audrey Green (Ken) and Gwen Mercereau (Ron); two sisters-in-law Vera Raugust and Joyce Raugust; and many other relatives and friends.

Ruby was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Isabelle and Howard Schmidt, and two brothers Richard and Ron Raugust.

Ruby was born and raised in Ponoka, Alberta. After High School, she worked at the local Coop in Ponoka and after moving to Calgary worked at the Calgary Coop for many years. She had a love of life and despite many hardships always pursued happiness. She loved being a mother and raising her children, always protecting and supporting them. She was also generous and giving beyond her children, opening her home to their friends and many others. Ruby loved to dance and for a time spent many weekends ballroom dancing. Her greatest love was with her family, who consider her a domestic queen. She was dedicated to her children and grandchildren and all their friends. Ruby has been burdened with many illnesses for many years and has bravely battled each. She will be remembered with love by her family.

A Celebration of Ruby’s life will take place at the Ponoka United Church Hall, 5020 – 52 Avenue, Ponoka on Saturday, August 30 at 2:00 pm. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family at www.piersons.ca.
