Ruth Carder

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth Angela Carder at the age of 85, on Thursday, December 21, 2011. Ruth succumbed to complications from cancer. Ruth was first of all a wife, a partner and a friend with Allan; a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother. Ruth was an active participant in assisting Allan with many of the functions at the Royal Canadian Legion in Ponoka. Ruth was born in Black’s Harbour, New Brunswick on May 31, 1946. She grew up in the St. John and St. George, New Brunswick areas. After her schooling in St. George, Ruth moved to St. John and took on a position as a telephone operator with Maritime Telegraph and Telephone. While living there she met and married her husband Allan Carder. They enjoyed one another’s company for 62 years. Ruth and Allan lived in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Montreal, Quebec; Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia; Edmonton, Alberta and finally Ponoka. Ruth was a keen crafts person and enjoyed knitting, scrapbooking and making her own Christmas ornaments. She was also an avid camper and loved the area in Kananaskis Country. Many were the evenings that they were sitting around a campfire debating the issues of the day. Her love of camping was passed on to their three sons. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the surgical unit at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Center and Dr. Halse for Ruth’s loving care during her time of need. Ruth is lovingly remembered by her 3 sons Doug Carder (Sandy), Scot Carder (Jeannie) and Jeff Carder (Tricia); grandchildren Shelli Carder Drozd (Stuart), Mark Carder (Roberta), Leah Carder, Brett Carder, Colleen Carder and Jake Carder; great-grandchildren Everett Drozd and Sophie Carder; her brothers Paul Gould (Lynda)and Bernard Gould (Fern); her sister Theresea Leavitte (Reg); and her sister-in-law Elsie Meek. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Allan and her brother Eugene Gould. At Ruth’s request, a private family service will be held. Donations in Ruth’s memory are gratefully accepted to the Royal Canadian Legion, Ponoka, Branch #66. To express condolences to Ruth’s family, please visit www.womboldfuneralhomes.com.
