Stickney Sarah

1938-2012

Sarah Stickney passed away peacefully at the Rocky Mountain House Health Care Center on May 8, 2012 at the age of 73. Mom was born July 21, 1938 at Lacombe, AB to Ivy & Fred Johnson. She was the first baby born in the new Lacombe Hospital. She lived in the central Alberta area (Ponoka, Home Glen, Red Deer, Caroline, Innisfail) most of her life, with the exception of a few years up north in the Saddle Hills area where they had a ranch, and in Enderby, BC where they 'retired' to. They found it too hot there in the summer and too foggy in the winter, so it was back to sunny Alberta where they bought a nice quarter 10 minutes east of Rocky.

Mom enjoyed reading and word finds, watching hockey and soap operas. She could knit a pair of slippers in no time flat and the sweaters she knitted were amazing. She always kept her house spotless and her yard immaculate. She enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table with a coffee and having a nice long chat about whatever was going on at the place or in the news. Mom loved her dog Jesse.

Mom was a wife and mother first, but had many and varied jobs over the years: waitress, telephone operator, bank teller, postmaster and grocery clerk. She was big part of the success of the family farm and custom silage outfit. She worked alongside Ken on many occasions, working cattle, driving tractor and doing any job that needed doing. She was a hard worker who took great pride in a job well done.

Mom is survived by husband Ken, son Les (Melinda), granddaughter Claire, step-sons Bobby (Chris) and Keith (Carrie), step-daughters Bonnie and Sheila (Rob), sisters Lorraine (Jim), Lillian, Sharon (Chuck), Gloria, brother Fred (Irene), brother-in-law Cliff. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Ivy & Fred, step-father Ed, sisters Marilyn and Audrey, infant sister Ivy, brother-in-law Jim and niece Sandra.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff in Palliative Care, Rocky Health Care Center for the love and care they showed Mom.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Ponoka United Church, 5020 - 52 Avenue with a tea following at the church hall.
