Sidney Schalin
On February 22, 2016, at the age of 96, Sid Schalin went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sid was born on April 23, 1919 on a farm near Ponoka. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Don (Georgette) of Ponoka, Judy (Wayne) of Winnipeg, and Kristine (Charlie) of Lacombe; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers Gordon (Verna) Schalin of Ponoka and Harvey (Bea) Schalin of Hylo; sister Myrna (Bert) Harsch of Edmonton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Sid was predeceased by his loving wife Bernice; his parents Fred and Molly Schalin; brother Erven Schalin; and sister Bernice Dietz. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ponoka Funeral Home with Pastor Len Eichler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society, Canadian Bible Society, or Gideons.
