Thomas Russell Smethurst, aged 58 years
passed away early in the morning on Tuesday,
December 6th at his home in Ponoka, AB.
Born April 27th, 1953 in Red Deer, AB to Don
& Aileen Smethurst. Attended Red Deer College
and received a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. He
worked many jobs over the years culminating in
a nursing career at the Centennial Centre (AHP) in
Ponoka. He loved driving, and technology, and was
certified in a number of things including amateur
radio which was a passionate hobby. He would
always be of help whenever he could and took
a strong interest in his family and friends. Many
things could be said of Tom’s life and the most
important of which was he disliked being bored
and was therefore never boring.
He is survived by his wife Carol Smethurst,
children; Russell, Krista, Kurt & Tarl Smethurst,
grandchildren; Arwyn, Vincent & Abigail, his
mother Aileen Smethurst, and siblings; Susan,
Duane & Raeanne.
The service will be held Thursday, December
15th 2011 at 1:00 pm at the Sunrise Christian
Reformed Church, on 46St./Range Road 255 South
of Ponoka. His remains will be interned at Red Deer
Cemetery at a later date yet to be determined.
