Victor Martin Sandin


1927 - 2010




Victor Martin Sandin was born at home on May 12, 1927 and passed away on July 16, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Victor was the eldest of two sons born to David and Agnes Sandin of Bashaw, Alberta. His childhood years were spent on the farm in the Calumet community where he attended the one room Calumet School. He married Mavis Henkel on October 24, 1953. Six months later they moved to Victor’s home place. Here they raised five children. Victor farmed all his life until his retirement in 1997 when he and Mavis then moved to Bashaw. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mavis of 56 years; his children: David (Gaylia) Sandin and grandchildren Brendon and Sara; Lorna (Dennis) Steeves and granddaughter Amanda; Jim (Deb) Sandin and grandchildren Jesse, Amber, Gina and Klay; Bonnie (Ron) Miners and grandchildren Jennifer, Candace (Chris), and Levi; Glen (Laureen) Sandin and grandsons Ashton, Jaden, Mathias, and Lukas; as well as five great-grandchildren: Hunter, Kingston, Hailey, Curtis, and Jude; along with his brother Earl (Joan) Sandin; and numerous other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him. A Funeral Service was held at the First Baptist Church Ponoka on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Panton officiating. Interment took place in the Calumet Cemetery.
