June 6, 1933 - August 30, 2021
Vyonne "Babe" Wanda Steedman passed away peacefully August 30, 2021 at Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm, BC. Vyonne was born on the farmstead near Rimby, Alberta June 6, 1933, by attending country doctor John C. Byers who played poker with her dad while waiting for a late baby.
Vy attended school in Wilmot and Ponoka. She met future husband John (Jack) Steedman in 1949, and they were married in Ponoka on October 25, 1951.
Vy and Jack followed the call of the oil patch around western Canada, living all too briefly in Red Deer, Delburn, Three Hills, Ponoka, Edmonton, Regina, Dawson Creek, Regina (again!), and finally settling in Calgary for 30 years.
Vy and Jack moved to Salmon Arm in 1993. Vy worked on and off in retail while raising a family, and was a lifelong Bridge player. She had many fond memories of family and friends at the cottage on Shuswap Lake, over the last 60 years.
Vy is lovingly remembered by her sons, Robert (Gillian) of Calgary, and Dale (Shannon) of Okotoks, daughter-in-law Betty of Calgary, grandchildren Gavin (Nora), Audrey (Mike), Colin (Alanna), Graham, Fiona (Mike), Ryan, Evan and great granddaughter Violet.
Vy will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Vy was predeceased by her husband Jack in 2000, and son Rick in 2014. Vy has directed that there be no funeral. Arrangements are in the care of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm.
