Walter Spelrem
December 16, 1925 to November 15, 2010
Walter passed away peacefully on November 15, 2010 with his wife and family by his side at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. Those who mourn his loss are his wife of 57 years, Betty; son Brian; daughter Lori (Rick Plouffe); son Mark (Carey); son-in-law Rick Dawes; grandchildren Garnet (Alesia), Chelsey, Brant (Sara) and Joelle; brother Roy (Shirley); sisters-in-law Opal and Alice; brother-in-law Carl Christensen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents Ole and Mildred Spelrem; sisters Laura Lance, Ellen Steffenson, Ruby Christensen and Florence Riske; and brothers Glen and Lee. Walter was born in Calumet on December 15, 1925 where he continued to live and farm with his wife Betty until his retirement to Ponoka in November, 1988. His love of sports in which he participated were baseball, hockey, curling and fishing. His interaction with people of all ages reflected in the respect that was returned to him throughout his life. The love for his family, especially his grandchildren, was the most important part of his life. The Celebration of Life for Walter will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.. Memorials will be gratefully accepted to the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre Palliative Care, Dogs With Wings Assistance Dog Society, Red Deer Cancer Clinic (Radiation Unit) or any charity of your choice.
