On February 2, 2009 Mr. William Edgar McLeod of Ponoka passed away at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre at the age of 89 years. Edgar was born on April 19, 1919 in Benson, Saskatchewan. He was raised on the family farm and married his childhood sweetheart Helen Shupe on November 21, 1942. He then joined the army and was stationed in Sarnia and also Montreal before going overseas until 1945. To this marriage was born Nancy, Bonnie and Garry. They farmed in the Benson district until 1958, when they moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan where he worked at Stickel Plumbing until his retirement. In 1989 he married Margaret Reed and they spent their retirement years wintering in Yuma, Arizona and fishing in the summer at Gull Lake. They loved to travel and went to Hawaii, Alaska, the Panama Canal and various other destinations. After Margaret’s passing, he appreciated and enjoyed the continued visits and phone calls he received from her family. Edgar was predeceased by his first wife Helen in 1986 and by Margaret in 2006. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Nancy Bingeman, Bonnie McLaren (Dan) and Garry McLeod (Cathy); grandchildren Melanie Tonneson (Coyne), Sandra Bingeman, Kim Raugust (Beau), Jeff Bingeman, Lori Lollike (Erik), Todd McLaren (Cindy), Steven McLeod, Tanya Johnson (Terence) and Shana Ondik (Darren); great-grandchildren Tade, Trace and Oakley Tonneson, Rylan Flawes, Clayton Raugust and Jake Johnson. He is survived by nieces and nephews, step-children and their families. The Interment Service took place at Forest Home Cemetery in Ponoka on Thursday, February 5th followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponoka First Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Spate officiating. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or World Vision.
