Fraser, Willodene Wyona (nee Parks) of Ponoka, passed away peacefully on 1 October 2008 in Red Deer at the age of 92 years. “Dene” was born at Tilden, Nebraska 9 July, 1916, moved with family to Concord District where they established their home in 1928. She married Ross Fraser in 1937 and farmed in this area for 22 years. Dene worked for numerous businesses including the Central Hardware, Alberta Hospital (sewing room), Dr Cullum’s dental office and then set up her own ceramic business and taught ceramics for 10 years. Dene excelled in quilting, sewing & needle work and won numerous ribbons at the Ponoka County Fair. She also judged at local fairs in Central Alberta. Dene & Ross were well known on the square dance circuit and taught square dancing in the community. An avid card player, she enjoyed playing crib around central Alberta and very frequently won. In 1998, at the age of 82, Dene and her card partner won Gold in cribbage for Zone 4 at the Alberta Seniors Games. Some of her favorite pastimes were doing crossword & jigsaw puzzles and playing scrabble. She enjoyed traveling with groups by plane, coach, and cruise ships to numerous countries and across Canada and the US.

Willodene was predeceased by her husband Ross Fraser, five sisters: Margaret (Tom) Brady, Maude (Lester) Wingate, Myrtle ( Alfred) Volk, Ruby (Bernard) Perry, and Lucille (Bruce) MacMillan, and 3 brothers: Dave ( Leorie) Parks, George (Mildred) Parks, and William Parks.

Willodene leaves to mourn her son Dale (Gladys) Fraser, daughter Doreen (Bill) Hanna, son Roger (Joy) Fraser, and daughter Carolyn (Dennis) Pohl. She will also be sadly missed by 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren as well as numerous very supportive nephews and nieces. A Funeral Service was held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Lyn Lamers officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Red Deer Hospice Society.
