A policy that should cease

Dear Editor,

As the wife of a patient in a geriatric unit of the Centennial Centre in Ponoka, I would like to comment regarding the letter in the Jan 22nd edition of the Ponoka News written by Greg Workun.

My husband is now eligible for placement at a Long Term Care Institution. I am voicing my strong opposition to his being placed outside of the Ponoka community, in which we have lived for many years. Even though we can no longer maintain a close marriage tie due to his early onset Alzheimer’s, I feel I should be able to visit him as often as possible in order to feed and comfort him. This would be impossible if he was placed as far away as 80 km. My own health and the sometimes hazardous weather conditions would make it difficult to drive to other communities.

THIS IS A GOVERNMENT POLICY WHICH SHOULD CEASE!!!!!!
