Business hours debate is tiring

All this controversy over the liquor store hours is really getting tiring.

Dear Editor,

All this controversy over the liquor store hours is really getting tiring.

Fine if liquor stores want to be open till 11, then so be it.

Ponoka is known as the drinking and driving town anyway. And as for Stampede time, they have their own beer gardens and saloon on the grounds. So what has that got to do with the liquor stores?

The only thing I see as a problem is letting people who are not camping on the grounds being allowed to leave and drive home.

Hours of operation are not going to stop the intoxicated from drinking anyway no matter what the time of night. The police can’t be everywhere.

The onus is on the person drinking and if they don’t have enough sense not to drive, then I hope the person they hurt is themselves not some innocent person who doesn’t deserve to get hurt or killed.

Whether our town council vote for 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. The intoxicated will find a way to get what they want.
