Legislative assembly resumes, mixed future for Alberta

With the legislature back is session as of March 5, it will be an interesting time ahead.

With the legislature back is session as of March 5, it will be an interesting time ahead. I look forward to the coming weeks and will be speaking often and loudly in representing the constituents of Lacombe Ponoka.

The budget was presented on March 7 and there is no doubt there will be cutbacks and tax increases as the PC government scrambles to put together the pieces of the disaster they have caused by disregarding the warnings of both the Official Opposition and experts across the province about impending financial disaster. As your elected Wildrose MLA, I will work hard to ensure your voices are heard.

February was a busy month in this constituency. It was my pleasure to attend the grand opening of Royal Oaks Manor in Lacombe — another step forward for supplying affordable homes for our Alberta seniors. I also attending the Alberta Economic Summit held in Calgary. At this meeting, the idea of a sales tax was strongly touted, and again, I will speak for you against this type of tax.

It was a pleasure to attend the Town of Blackfalds council meeting to present Mike Elder with the Alberta Emergency Services Medal in honour of his many years of service to the community.

Another milestone that I was pleased to attend was the grand opening of the Sunny 94 radio station in Lacombe. The new location will serve both Sunny 94 and the community well.

The Leader’s Prayer Breakfast in Lacombe Feb. 21 was an opportunity to share thoughts and prayers with the leaders of this community.

In the area of education, I was pleased to attend a meeting with the Wolf Creek Public School Board, along with Joe Anglin, MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre to discuss educational issues and challenges in this area. And, finally this month, I was able to attend an educational tour of the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury in Ponoka.

With the legislature in session, I will be in Edmonton for a great deal of time, but as your elected Wildrose MLA, I will be available to meet with constituents by appointment in my office located at #101 4892 46 Street, Lacombe, AB T4L 2B4. Please feel free to contact the office to address concerns or to make appointments.
