Letter: Alberta UCP – Santa or Scrooge?

Dear editor,
23605522_web1_letters-fwm-201120-lte_1

Dear editor,

Under cover of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UCP continues to pursue reckless economic recovery plans for Alberta: 1. Delisted 164 Alberta Parks March 3, 2020 2. Rescinded Coal Policy June 1, 2020 enabling open pit coal mining which will impact 60 parks 3. Offering coal leases in eastern slopes of Rocky Mountains Dec. 5, 2020 4. Rewriting water use access rules along Eastern Slopes of Rockies impacting Oldman River Basin and area creeks Dec 7, 2020.

Supporting boom/bust industries instead of long term sustainable industries like agriculture, ranching and tourism is very short-sighted. “Only after the Last Tree has been cut down, only after the Last River has been poisoned, only after the Last Fish has been caught, only then will you find that Money Cannot be Eaten.” — A Cree prophecy

Barb Olsen,
