Letter: MLAs holiday travel ‘unacceptable’ and ‘disrespectful’

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

“Do as I say but not as I do” — the operating principle of the UCP. UCP really stands for Under Cover Politician as some flaunt the impact of the Pandemic and ignore the Public Health measures in place for all citizens in Alberta and Canada, including “nonessential travel within and outside of Alberta/Canada is not recommended.”

Although no “law” was broken by those Alberta MLA’s and staffers who recently travelled to USA, Hawaii, Mexico and Europe, it implies that needs of those in privileged taxpayer-funded positions come first. Many Albertans have been following the pandemic restrictions: not seeing family, not being with family who is dying, setting aside family traditions for the sake of others, closing my business, etc. Today our ICU’s are overflowing with patients struggling to survive COVID-19 and cases are still being identified. Such disrespect for humanity and the “good of the whole” is unacceptable.

Barb Olsen,

Ponoka
