LETTER: Ponoka doesn’t help residents

A Ponoka News reader isn’t too happy with how the Town of Ponoka functions

Dear Editor,

When has this town done anything for you as a home owner?

They raised our property taxes, which they have not improved anything except their own comfort and made our ability to keep our home very difficult. Look how many homes for sale have increased.

They are getting a new office which they do not need in my opinion. They are a bunch of slagarts! You can’t get any answers to your concerns. They do nothing about the lousy roads full of potholes.

I have complained for six years about the speeding on my street (51 Street). The cops and town do nothing about it. The top of 51 Street should be closed off to prevent entry from Highway 2A; make them use 50 Street, which is the most decent road in all of Ponoka. It probably cost millions yet hardly gets used.

Then you have very little enforcement at the Co-op station. I counted 15 cars that did not make a complete stop at the red light when turning right.

Speed limits in all residential neighbourhoods should be reduced to 40 km/h.

Then you have biking people riding on crosswalks. Hey, illegal! Wetaskiwin is the only town where they have “Dismount Your Bike” signs at every crosswalk.

I have talked to Municipal Affairs about the mismanagement of this town and they assured me they will look into it.
