Dear editor,
MLA Ron Orr’s recent comments on the UCP’s cuts to family doctors are appalling. Physicians are not refusing to spend more time with their patients, they are being forced by the UCP government to change how they practice so they can keep their small businesses open and pay their staff.
It is laughable that Ron Orr also states he doesn’t think physicians are being fair to their patients. Hey Ron, do you know what’s not fair? Ripping up a contract and not bargaining in good faith with the AMA.
The UCP cuts to primary care are going to affect how physicians across Alberta are able to work with their patients including right here in Ponoka. Physicians know that now is the time for austerity in our province and budget. We continue to ask, as we always have, to be a part of the budget solutions so that it doesn’t affect the time patients have with their doctor. The UCP and Ron Orr don’t seem to want to listen.
