The first evening featured a free community supper sponsored by the Town of Ponoka and Ponoka County for Sept. 2 ticket holders, wild pony races, the Ranch Relay Race and All Pro Canadian Chuckwagons and World Professional Chuckwagons (WPC).

In the WPC, Vern Nolin posted the fast time of the night with 1:16.52, ahead of former Ponoka Stampede champion Kirk Sutherland by just 15 one-hundredths of a second.

The other top five wagons on the day were Evan Salmond, third; Chanse Vigen, fourth; and Obrey Motowylo, World Points leader.

The tradeshow located at the Tommy Dorchester Paddock is open daily. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The World Champion Chuckwagon Driver will be declared on Sunday evening.
