Busted Ladies Lingerie celebrated its 15-year anniversary on Oct. 12.
The business opened its doors in Ponoka on Oct. 12, 2008. They started out in a leased building with less than 1,000 square feet, with one employee — and no customers.
In their current location on 51 Avenue, they have over double the space in a building they own, a staff of five and thousands of customers that are willing to travel the distance for a properly fitted bra.
According to owner Sherry Gummow, 75 per cent of the boutique’s customers come from outside of the local postal code area.
“We’re a destination business and I feel that we draw business to Ponoka,” said Gummow in her opening remarks before the ribbon cutting.
“Any chance we get, we promote the other businesses in town. We are women supporting women — in their search for proper fitting, supportive and feminine undergarments … Our goal is to uplift women in every sense of the word.”
Mayor Kevin Ferguson brought greetings and congratulations from the town, as well as a “man’s perspective” about Busted, relaying a story about how the customer service at Busted made his experience of shopping for his wife a lot more comfortable.
Following the remarks, Gummow, Ferguson and the staff posed for a ribbon cutting photo.
The business served cake and coffee throughout the day and held draws for customers to enter.
“Hopefully I’m here for another 15 years,” said Gummow.
