Ponoka Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) held its annual food security awareness event ‘Empty Bowls’ on Oct. 19.

Ponoka Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) held its annual food security awareness event ‘Empty Bowls’ on Oct. 19.

Bowls, provided by the potters of the Ponoka Potters Guild, were sold on the sidewalk of FCSS for $20 each. They came with a coupon for soup from a participating local business.

The coupons can be used until Oct. 31, or bowl purchasers had the option of donating their soup coupon back to people in need.

Soup was donated by the Old Iron Horse, Ranchers Castle, Subway, Boston Pizza, The Bird Drug. Co., The Hitchin’ Post, The Raspberry Patch and Longhorn Saloon and Grill.

At the end of the day, 150 bowls had been sold, with about four dozen leftover. Bowls were available for the rest of that week at FCSS.

The proceeds of the sale will go towards food crisis in the community and 99 soup coupons were donated back to FCSS to distribute to those in need.

FCSS donates the clay, and the Ponoka Potters Guild donates their time and talents to make the bowls for the annual event.

Keep an eye out for the Ponoka Potters Guild’s winter show and sale coming up in November.
