Ponoka’s new mayor and councillors were sworn in on Tuesday, Oct. 26, during the town’s organizational meeting.

Mayor Kevin Ferguson was joined by newly elected councillor Cal David, and incumbent councillors Sandra Lyon, Carla Prediger, Ted Dillon, Clayton Nelson and Teri Underhill, as they were sworn into office by members of the Ponoka RCMP detachment.

Of particular note, Coun. Dillon was sworn in by his own son, Cpl. Mike Dillon, seeming to show public service is a family tradition.

During the meeting, council standing committee appointments were made.

To name a few, Coun. Dillon was appointed to the Police Advisory Committee, Ponoka Victim Services and the Emergency Advisory Committee. Prediger is the alternate.

Underhill and Prediger are the leads for community services and recreation.

David and Underhill will sit on the Ponoka Jubilee Library Board and the Parkland Regional Library Board.

Ferguson and Prediger were appointed to be the council representatives for the Ponoka Ag Events Centre Society.

Lyon and David were appointed to the Family and Community Support Services Board, and Lyon and Dillon will serve on the Rimoka Housing Foundation’s board.
