Victim identified in Ponoka homicide

RCMP asking for public assistance to locate vehicle of interest

Ponoka RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance to locate a vehicle seen in the area at the time of a death being investigated as a homicide.

On Nov. 10, Ponoka RCMP located a male deceased in his home on 57 Avenue in Ponoka. Following an autopsy, the deceased person’s identity was confirmed as 37-year-old Derek Westling.

The RCMP are treating the death as a homicide. The RCMP are looking for the public’s assistance in locating and identifying a vehicle seen in the area at the time of the incident.

There is no information to suggest there is a risk to the general public at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP appreciates the public’s assistance and will actively monitor and follow up on tips.
