Lindsay Amundsen-Meyer is excited about her chance to give back to the community that gave her so much.

Amundsen-Meyer, who throws third rocks for Tanilla Doyle’s rink and recently competed at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Camrose, will be home to curl in the mixed bonspiel Feb. 11 to 13.

After the spiel is over, she and Doyle will hold a skills building session with any local kids who want an opportunity to curl.

“It’s awesome. I think with some of the older kids we will work on skill development and run some drills, the same drills we do, and with the little kids were going to focus on games and fun. It should be lots of fun for everyone,” said Amundsen-Meyer.

The session will take place on Feb. 13 and will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It is open to kids of all ages and skill levels.

“Everyone is welcome, all the kids and even adults are welcome. One great thing is we’ll have access to all of the junior curling programs sliders and brooms so if you don’t have the equipment, we’ll be able to help out,” said Amundsen-Meyer

The chance to work with kids and possibly help the next generation of curlers is something that isn’t lost on Amundsen-Meyer.

“I think that part of what we can do by coming back is get kids inspired and get them into it. One thing we’ve seen recently in Alberta is the number of curlers in league registrations is dropping and definitely the number of junior teams we see have been dropping. If we can go out there and help out maybe we can get a few kids going and see curling continue.”
