Dean Edge of Rimbey wins reserve champion at World Livestock Auctioneer Championships

Born and raised in Rimbey, Dean Edge was this year’s reserve champion at the World Livestock Auctioneer Championships in Arcadia, Florida on June 9.

He won $2,500, a trophy buckle and trophy knife for his placing.

“It’s a judged event, so the top 15 or 20 are very, very tight and things just fell my way and the judges liked what I did this year. It worked out in my favour,” he said.

In order to attend the event, Edge had to go to at least one of the three qualifying events, and be in the top ten in one of those to make it on to be a semi-finalist in this year’s event. Edge ended up attending a regional contest in Missouri, where he placed in the top 10 to get him to Florida.

“This is the highest I’ve ever gone,” he said about his most recent placing as reserve champion.

He made the top 10 in the last four years he’s gone and ended up between fourth and seventh place the last three years in a row.
