It’s always nice when a hometown rink can win your bonspiel.

The Town and Country Bonspiel was held Jan. 26 to 29 at the Ponoka Curling Club and it was a local team skipped by Regan Fuhrhop that won it all. The team has curled together off and on for 10 years and is rounded out by Dana Sorensen at third, Troy Monea at second, and Trent Heilman at lead.

“We had a great week. A really close semifinal against Palechek, where we maybe got a little bit lucky. In the final we faced Bresee from Lacombe and all four of us, from lead up shot well,” said Fuhrhop.

Twenty-four teams signed up for the bonspiel, a number that makes setting up a draw a little difficult and a reduction of teams from years past.

“Last year we had 28 so we are down four this year. But everything went really great and the ice was in great shape,” said B-event winner and bonspiel organizer, Dale Moench of team Pederson Construction.
