Four Grade 10 Ponoka Composite High School Students are ‘pumped’ after receiving a bronze medal in the provincial golf championship that had 71 schools and 195 individual players participating Sept. 28 and 29.

“Winning a bronze is incredibly hard to do in this championship,” said golf head coach Ron Labrie. “This is our first provincial medal since 1992.”

Tucker Dougherty, Austin Jacobson, Mikeal Skaley and James Ursulak, make up the senior golf team at PCHS. JP Desaulniers also helps coach the senior golf team. The championship took place in Lacombe and Alberta Springs near Red Deer. Out of 71 other schools and 195 individuals, the team received bronze.

“It was humbling,” Skaley said.

“We are taking it to the top next year,” added Ursulak.

The boys plan to stick together for the next golf season.

“They are all really good players,” Labrie said.

In other golf news, the junior boys’ team of Des Robinson, Chandler McClaren, Nicholas Grant, Kolby Vold won the 3J Central West Alberta Junior High Athletic Association (CWAJHAA) championship in Eckville on Sept. 22.

The teams are finished for the season and Labrie said they are really going to strengthen over the next few years.
