High competition at bonspiel

The Ponoka Town and Country Bonspiel received a slightly lower turnout than previous years but that didn’t lessen the competitive edge

The Ponoka Town and Country Bonspiel received a slightly lower turnout than previous years but that didn’t lessen the competitive edge of those who attended.

Normally the bonspiel tries to host 24 teams because that number works well, said five-time organizer Dale Moench. However this year had only 21 teams register.

“I think everything turned out real good,” said Moench. “The draw was good, sponsors were great.”

Moench was also thankful for the volunteer support that made the bonspiel run smoothly. “(It was) really good this year, I’d have to say that.”

Teams came from several different communities, including Lacombe, Rimbey and Wetaskiwin, to partake in the aggressive bonspiel.

“It’s pretty competitive, you have your players, your teams … It’s a good bonspiel,” said Moench.
