Lacokas open season

The Ponoka and Lacombe Lacoka lacrosse teams opened up their season April 12 and 13 with the eye opener weekend at the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex.

The Ponoka and Lacombe Lacoka lacrosse teams opened up their season April 12 and 13 with the eye opener weekend at the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex. The Lacokas had tyke, novice, pee wee, bantam and midget teams hit the floor for what is dubbed the ‘fastest game on two feet.’ They Lacokas hosted teams from Kneehill, Innisfail, Red Deer, Olds, Blackfalds, Drumheller and Disbury for the kickoff.

The Lacoka Cedar Craig midget team won both of their games easily on the weekend. In their first game on April 12, they defeated the Kneehill Bulldogs 9-1. Goal scorers for the Lacokas were Antony Smith (2), Colby Hubbard, Hayden Engert (2), Mason Hemmingway, Brett Erickson, Hayden Engert and Skyla Sargeant.

Sargeant lead the way for the Locakas scoring four goals as they defeated Drumheller 10-1. Hubbard, Engert (2), Kyle Neilsen, Smith and Dustin Anderson also scored in the victory.

The midgets host Innisfail on April 19 in Ponoka.
