The Ponoka Ladies Open was held on June 7 at the Ponoka Community Golf Course with just under 100 ladies hitting the tees for 18 holes of golf. Ladies from Edmonton to Lacombe and further came to brave the weather and the course for a fun day on the links.
“It’s a fun tournament to get women out to golf,” said Carla Prediger with the ladies golf association. “We have gone from 50 ladies to almost 100 with the open format.”
In the Callaway division first place went to Kelly Erickson and Candace Wiancko of Edmonton with a 71, second place went to Nancy McKenzie and Jeri Jonstone from Red Deer with a 72 and third place went to Jocelyn and Whitney Harrison from Ponoka with a 73.
The overall low net winners were Lorraine Tonneson and Sandy Cariou from Ponoka with a 59, second low net was Ardi Talsma and Bernie Wood from Lacombe with a 61, third was Deb Martin and Jackie Sinclair from Lacombe with a 61, fourth place went to Marlene Gartner and Julie Lightbown from Ponoka with a 63 and fifth place went to Glenda Morrow and Diane Stewart from Ponoka with a 63.
