Hard work by the Ponoka Midget B hockey team is paying off as the group is facing off against the West Country Midget Chiefs in the league finals series.

Ponoka won their first game 7-6 but they almost lost, says assistant coach Chad Cissell.

Coming out of first period Ponoka had a 4-2 lead against the Chiefs and they increased that lead in the second period 7-3. But the Chiefs did not give up control of the game.

“It was a good game, fast,” said Cissell.

At the end of the second period Ponoka held on to the lead with a score of 7-6. There were no goals in the third period, securing Ponoka’s win.

Ponoka plays the Chiefs in the second game of the finals series March 19 at home at 7:15 p.m.
