Midget Wolves prepare for Midget B provincials at home

Opening ceremonies for Hockey Alberta’s Midget B provincials starts Thursday, March 19 at 3 p.m. at the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex.

While the Wolves will be working hard at home, the Midget B Wespro Stampeders are heading to Kneehill for the Midget C provincials.

Bantams lose in semis

The Ponoka Bantam Moose competed in Viking for the Bantam C provincials title but lost in the semi finals. The Moose were undefeated going into the semi finals.

Peewee

The Ponoka Peewee Elks defeated Bashaw in a best of three semi finals last week with the last game played Monday, March 9 at home. The Elks won 5-3 in the final game with goals from Joel Hollingsworth (2), Jake Simanton (2) and Braeden Toporowski.

They then played in Wainwright in the finals series March 14 losing 4-1. Joel Hollingsworth scored the only goal of the game.

Their second game in the series was played March 15 at home where they earned a 3-2 win in overtime. The final game is March 20 in Wainwright.

The Peewee McDonalds lost their March 12 playoff game 10-0 to the Thunderstars and then lost their March 15 game to Maskwacis Peewee C Hawks 15-7. Scorers in that game were Ethan Little (5), Adam Hoag, and Mac Underhill.

Atom

Ponoka Calnash Trucking played the Rimbey Atom B March 15 with a 5-1 win at home. Scorers were Trace Tonneson (2), Nevin Thompson, Kobe Schmidt and Kevin Kammer.

Midget and Atom girls heading to provincials

Both the Lacoka Atom and Midget girls teams are heading to provincials this year.

The Midget girls are travelling to Vermillion for the Midget B female provincials and the Atom female team is heading to Camrose.
