Peewee A to play for provincial championship this weekend

Ponoka’s Zone 4 champions Peewee A team won the Tier 1 consolation title in a best-of-three series against Blackfalds over the weekend and they are now headed to provincials in Red Deer on March 21-22-23..

Peewee A Stampeders won their first game of the series 6-4 on Friday, March 14 at home with captain Noah Hackett scoring five of the six goals for the team with Hunter Busat completing the tally.

In the away game on Saturday, the Peewee Stampeders were in an even more confident mood scoring a 7-4 win in the Blackfalds arena. It was again Noah Hackett opening the scoring but the top scorer in that game was Ryan Lefebvre with three points as opposed to Hackett’s two. Jared Bussiere and Reagan Rabbit added one each to the scoreboard.

At this weekend’s provincials, Peewee A Stampeders will compete in the B pool which includes Lloydminster, Rimbey and Stettler and they will play the opening game of the tournament on Friday morning 7.45 a.m. against Rimbey Renegades.

They will take on Lloydminster on the same day at 4 p.m. and on Saturday at 11.15 a.m. they will play against Stettler, completing the elimination round.

Provincial semifinals and the championship games will be played on Sunday.
