After 23 years, and humble beginnings, Ponoka’s ladies hockey team is now operating under a new name with sleek jerseys, thanks to local sponsorship.

Following sponsorship from family owned and operated, Darcy’s Drilling Services Ltd., the hockey team is sporting red and black and is now called Darcy’s Drillers.

Darcy Schmidt, owner of Darcy’s Drilling, says they are passionate about giving back to the community when they can. After 23 years, it was apparent that the team was in need of new jerseys.

Formerly, called the Silverados, the team has undergone a few transformations over the years. Starting off with only a few players from Ponoka and Lacombe, some didn’t even have the proper equipment.

Today the Ponoka ladies hockey team is a vibrant group with players of all ages. Darcy’s Drillers match up against teams all over central Alberta and hosted a successful tournament earlier on in the year.

The ladies are now eager to hit the ice in style.
